For my bookday, we... went to the zoo. Because it was a perfect day for it. And there we saw... not one, not two, but SIX tiger cubs.






(catching all six of them in a shot at once proved to be impossible, for probably obvious reasons...)

we also saw, among other things, further proof that gorillas are close cousins...

I was amazed by how much like ourselves that sleeping gorilla looks like.

And, on a snarkier note, how much it looks like mtlawson when he's asleep. ;-)

Seriously, though, looking at monkeys and apes never ceases to amaze me. I know that's a cliche, but it's true.

the affectionate behavior of the two sleeping together (as well as the mother with youngster I didn't get a picture of) was matched only by the utter exasperation of an older male when his quiet resting place was invaded by three youngsters looking to play. If he'd had a cane, he would have been waving it at them.
