yeah, looks like a Monday all right....
Oct. 18th, 2010 08:43 amProject Updates: After today, The Vineart War #3 is my editor's headache for a few weeks. And me? I get to start on PSI#4, polish up the Small Press Project, and put together the proposal for The Sektrit Projekt! Whee?
New Book Updates: Yep, WEIGHT OF STONE is officially out tomorrow. Of course, it's unofficially already been delivered to some people. Not that I'm dying here, waiting to see if they love it or hate it, or anything.... and remember, there's still time to request a signed bookplate, as per my earlier post on the topic...
website updates I've made 'em. Mainly updating where I'll be, going forward, including at least one trip out to the SoCal area....
General self-serving but useful info Love books, but can't afford to buy everything you want to read? You did know that you can request that your local library buy it, right? If it's not on their list already, your request might make it appear on the shelf....
For any writers/publishing folk reading here and not on twitter via @PublishersWkly From @The_Millions: Gail Gauthier writes about rejection, not having an agent, & trying to get back into the game
and a bonus? 6th thing: having what my sister refers to as a 'reality based moment" I've put down in writing - and sent copies to family members -- my wishes regarding both worst case medical scenarios, organ donation, and funeral preferences. Yeah, I don't expect any of this info to be needed any time soon - but I'd rather my family not have to face "what should we do?" questions if it does. They'll have enough to deal with. I'd strongly advise y'all to do the same, if you haven't already. It's not morbid, it's a gift to those you care about.

Date: 2010-10-18 02:30 pm (UTC)I find her comparison to be off in a couple of ways, mainly the implication that Someone Did This To Her. The "Someone" I see that did this to her appears to be her own strategy.

Date: 2010-10-18 02:58 pm (UTC)She does say she was comfortable on the midlist, which (again, implication I'm picking up) sounds to me as if 1)she had a formula that was working, 2)makes me wonder why one novel would crash her career instead of being a setback, and 3)makes me wonder how the marketing and books that got her onto the midlist could have suddenly failed her that badly.

Date: 2010-10-19 05:31 am (UTC)I didn't know anything about it other than it wasn't in the Retrievers series - and it took me a bit to get into it, because I'm so *not* a wine person :)
I really enjoyed the world-building, and the painstaking character-building - I'm really excited to read what happens next!
The *only* thing I can't figure out (and I realize this is totally not in your control, I'm sure) - what is *up* with these new "slightly taller" mass market paperback books? The form factor is just..weird to me.

Date: 2010-10-19 09:46 am (UTC)Yeah, I had nothing to do with the format choice. I find that I like the taller form, whose name escapes me before coffee, because it's easier to hold while reading (like a trade paperback) but it makes it damn annoying to try and shelve....
