My family tends to...accumulate people, friends who are gathered up and become as much family as anyone bound by blood.

One of those people is Kristi. I've known her... too long to remember. I learned to change diapers on her daughter (sorry, Sarah), who has now graduated from college, that's how long she and her family have been part of ours.

Five years ago, Kristi had bone cancer surgery that was supposed to leave her in a wheelchair.

Today, Kristi is riding her recumbent bike through Israel to benefitthe Arava Institute. Established in 1996, the Arava Institute is a non-profit organization located on Kibbutz Ketura in Israel's Arava Valley near the Jordanian and Egyptian borders and the Gulf of Aqaba/Eilat, preparing future Arab and Jewish leaders to cooperatively solve the region’s environmental challenges. Together, faculty and students are advancing a critical common cause: a sustainable future for the region’s human and natural resources..

Click to follow her journey, and please consider a donation to Arava in her name!

Isn't that the way it's supposed to work?
