bonsoir, mes chers
Oct. 1st, 2010 05:31 pmToday, among other things, I exchanged my return TGV ticket for 11 October to Paris/CDG for one on 10 October to Paris Nord. Simple as cookies, once I figured out that I could not actually do the excahnge at the machine; since I was changing the station as well as the date. Huzzah for clerks who speak as much English as I do French, we muddled through. So now I have a place to stay, a friend to meet for lunch, and a chqnce to spend some time at the Musee d'Orsey, which is actually Book Research. Really. I am going to Paris for research. Gods, I LOVE my life.
The rest of the day was spent merely being out and about, walking and listening and interacting with the cityscape. I have now been here a week and a day. My comprehension of French is getting better, although most locals still speak way too fast, naturally. As a fast speaker myslf, I do not begrudge them this. I'll get better at the listening.
The page proofs are almost done; and New Words are simmering gently inside me. I know the feeling; I am anticipating their eventual and inevitable boil. Until then; there is chevre and vin and macarons, and a cat who wants to be scritched. Worse things to face, friday night in Lille.
EtA: favorite wine discovery so far: Chateau Thieuley Bordeaux Blanc; Bought on impulse; savored at leisure. Under 10€.
And how ends YOUR week?
