I woke up this morning with Shadow sleeping between my shoulder blades. Much reassured (just like being home!) I went back to sleep. So now we know: it took exactly six days to go from 'new human, ack!' to 'bon, you bring fud' to 'my hooman nao.'
-------------

I haven't seen the sun in five days. Seriously -- even when it's not raining, the sky is thickly grey. While I appreciate the lack of sun glare, this is starting to weird me out. On the other hand, it's made for some excellent photos....

------------

Why I prefer to rent an apartment rather than stay in hotels, when I can: a market run netted me nice dinners for two nights, plus 2 bottles of inexpensive wine, for 20€. That's about what lunch Monday cost me, at a decent restaurant. Also, the food was probably healthier, while still tasty.

I guess if your idea of vacation is not having to cook/do dishes it's not so much fun, but with the euro what it is right now.... (and me, cooking, not a pain)

------------

also; the thing about traveling is that you have disaster and you have triumph, often in the same hour (An Adventure in every turn), and when you're looking down at the ground often you find the most surprising beauty... and when I can upload photos you'll better understqnd what I mean. /tease

Today is a day for laundry and bookwork and replanning (recalculating....) And, possibly, nightlife later on. How's it going out there?

There have been earthquakes, fires, and signs of the Apocalypse.

The Reds won the NL Central.

Other than that, not much going on.

I like renting an apartment too. After an exhausting day, it feels a lot like coming home. I always feel like I am still "out" in hotels, and I never completely relax in the same way.

Renting an apartment is smart. When my ex and I were living in France, every six weeks we had to (for his job) go to Paris for about 7-10 days. We always rented a studio apartment. We not only saved by making our own breakfast, we could make sandwiches for lunch (French style, of course) and were guaranteed a home base with an Internet connection. It was during one of those stays that I conceived "Though Thy Lips Are Pale" and emailed Ellen straight away -- right from the apartment -- to see if anyone had had already written a story about that idea. I didn't care about doing the dishes. It was all good.

But then, we knew you were a smart cookie! :)
