Not quite a deathmarch...
Aug. 2nd, 2010 06:47 amwe make our own fun:
me: "well, the depression of 1920-21 was-"
friend: (thinking she'd gotten one over on me) "the Depression was in the 30's."
me: *sighs* The Great Depression was in the 30's. There was some bipolar financial behavior prior to that."
friend: "Oh. Do they make Prozac for index funds?"

Ok, Leverage. I like the basic idea, the con itself, even as it got screwed via Parker's good intentions, worked -- and Parker as a car thief is "oh, of course," even if the actual caper felt a little thin, even for them. Loved the highlights of team geekiness and backstory (Parker as a 9 year old getaway driver was priceless and totally believable, Elliott's "gunslinger" move with the gun was adorably inevitable, and Hardison's referencing Ghostbusters was surprisingly only in that they didn't do it earlier). And their finding Shorty a legit job was a nice touch, although, um, isn't there an age limit for hiring kids as labor? How young was she supposed to be?
So, a solid episode, but I think that while the ass-slap and kneeing exchange between Nate and Sophie showed a nice little knife-twisting still between them, and while I liked the reference to the restaurant job, with them all gathered around the table after closing, it felt a little off to me, as though all the tension and resentment that's been building (Nate's messing with Hardison's mind, etc) got wiped clean when we weren't looking. If they suddenly pretend none of that happened I'm going to be both disappointed, and annoyed.
HowEVER. Next week's episode? Looks to be EPIC. (and anyone who didn't know they were going to bring Jimmy Ford into play at some point or another hasn't been paying attention to the foreshadowing...)

And now, Day 1 of 2nd draft revision:The Readthrough. Caffeine, check. Chocolate, check. Red ink, check. Tylenol & Tums, check...
There may or may not be color commentary. Each march is different. Check this space.

Date: 2010-08-04 12:58 am (UTC)We don't actually know that she's underage -- Parker was shown to be 12-15 in the flashbacks, but the girl (I can only think of her as "shorty") age was never given, only that she was hanging out there because they let her/she had nowhere else to go. She could easily have been nearly out of high school but no college prospects... (the actress, apparently, is 19)
