Dinner last night at Atlantic Grill, which is wonderful as ever (although, sadly, half the offerings were on the Seafood watchlist) - I had crab-crusted mahi-mahi with sweet corn and asparagus-apricot salad. Oh yum. And then the waiter, on hearing that it was a joint birthday dinner and disappointed that we weren't ordering dessert (there was strawberry shortcake back at the apartment) came out with lemon-cake petits fours w/ a candle stuck on one. It was a really lovely gesture.
Really, the past 36 hours, friends, family and complete strangers have pretty much turned around what had been a crappyweek month. I have determined that August is going to be much better.
Amusing moment: being complimented on my outfit, and asked if it was new... since the slacks in question were ten years old. The very definition of "classic style." *grin* [also: a lesson in taking care of your fabrics. A good pair of silk pants should last that long.]
Today, having finished Draft 0 and letting it sit, I feel myself oddly adrift. Yes, there is much stuff to be done, and some of it's even writing-related, but... the writer-brain, it does not understand why we're not grinding down on the wordcount Right Now.
I have been accused, occasionally, of being a bit of an obsessive workaholic, for a lazy person. This may indeed be true. But for now, I'm going to NOT open a word file, and NOT look at any pending files, and just sort of see how the day goes...
How's it going, out there? How are you marking the midpoint of summer?

Date: 2010-07-31 03:58 pm (UTC)I hate July. July is full of a number of unpleasant/horrific anniversaries, from the 1st to the 31st, and I always breathe a great sigh of relief when the month is over. Like you, I loathe humidity and heat (and summer in general, actually).
Last night we heard Richard Shindell at the Rubin Museum, which was very pleasant, and dinner at Periyali, also thus. It marked a nice almost-ending to July. September seems to coming up very fast...

Date: 2010-08-01 03:14 pm (UTC)Me? I'm looking forward to it; I won't have to hear "I'm bored" (~= "I want to play on the computer or watch games"), and I won't have to break up any fights over Harry Potter minutae or Talisman rules.
On the other hand, I won't see the kids sprawled out on couches and/or chairs, reading in utter silence.
