Days 4 and 5 of Don't Move, and Winners!
Jul. 24th, 2010 07:04 amFriday was a day of experimentation - could I move my leg thus? Yes? How about that? Okay, no. The stabbity pain seems to have faded from the daily routine, and I can walk, but it feels as though someone tied a very large, tight knot in my calf, and any attempt to stretch it out makes me decide that's a Very Bad idea. Bruising noticable, but not as bad as I'd feared, which makes me think it was a level 1 not level 2. Which is a Good Thing.
(the original diagnosis was based on the intensity of the pain and how limited my initial mobility).
I managed to get another 3,000 words written, and then had a minor meltdown when a file I needed somehow got corrupted, and it took me half an hour to track down the original file on a 2-year-old backup disk. Whee?
And then we got hit with an upgrade from tornado warning to tornado watch, and all other plans sort of went out the window. Apparently the storm was decidedly wild on the Bergen County/Upper NYC edge, and not so much in Brooklyn or points south in NJ. Even I, as a fan of storms, was watching this one carefully, the hair prickling on my arms. Sudden wind, pouring-down rains, constant lightning, and some seriously loud thunder.
And this morning it seems to have settled into the kind of day even lizards can't enjoy -- we're supposed to hit a high of 97, and above 70% humidity. It's already 80 degrees at 7am. Me? I'm off to sit on the Cute Puppy, and make sure my folks brand-new a/c unit works at peak efficiency... {I'm leaving the apartment! Yay! OMG yay! *pauses to reassure felines that thy are still loved*}.

And before I go, congratulations to the winners of the ARC for WEIGHT OF STONE!

Date: 2010-07-24 02:24 pm (UTC)I'm sorry if I'd already mentioned it (can't recall), but you may want to look into online backups. My current top choice is Crash Plan (http://b3.crashplan.com/consumer/features-compare.html) (despite my currently using Carbonite; draw your own conclusions).
