On my return home, in addition to two Vocally Unhappy Kittehs, there was A Box.
And in that box there were ARCs for WEIGHT OF STONE.
*DIES*
Okay, these are the seriously UNcorrected ARCs, and gods help the reviewer who tries to quote some of this stuff, 'cause I did some serious surgery on them, but holyfuckyes it's Almost A Book.
We're 2/3 of the way through the journey.
and here's the cover copy, which I did not write*, and is a) wildly purple, b) vaguely inaccurate and c)vaguely spoilery, but pretty cool for all that....
Jerzy, Vineart-apprentice and former slave, was sent by his master to investigate strange happenings in the Lands Vin -- and found himself the target of betrayal. Now he must set out on his own journey, to find the source of the foul taint that threatens to destroy everything he holds dear. By Jerzy's side are Ao, who lives for commerce and the art of the deal, Mahault, stoic and wise, risking death in flight from her homeland, and Kainam, once Named-Heir of an island Principality whose father has fallen into a magic-tangled madness that endangers them all.
These four companions will travel far from the earth and the soul of the vine, sailing along coastlines aflame with fear, confronting sea creatures summoned by darkness, and following winds imbued with malice. Their journey will take them to the very limits of Sin Washer's reach...and into a battle for the soul of the Vin Lands. For two millennia one commandment has kept the lands Vin in order: Those of magic shall hold no power over men. Those of power shall hold no magic. Now that law has given way. And a hidden force seeks the havoc of revenge...
hrm.Ten Nine pretty shiny ARCs. Whatever shall I do with them...?
*no, I don't know what the havoc of revenge might be. I don't care. The copy's purple and cool and gets the basic idea down, anyway...

Date: 2010-07-11 10:19 pm (UTC)Hope the con went well, and I have an interesting development to report: Guess what had the front and center slot in the "New and Notable" section of our local branch library? None other than Hard Magic.
It's quite literally the first thing you see when you walk in the front entrance. I took a pic (http://pics.livejournal.com/mtlawson/pic/0000czws) for proof.
