Genre cons are just so much more forgiving than anything I get invited to! If I showed up for a panel/workshop/presentation wearing dark sunglasses, I'd be laughed out of the room. ;^)

That said...gee, you really haven't changed since I last saw you, what 10 years ago? That's a good thing...and I'm jealous!

bgliterary, that's because your genre (and it is a genre, just as much as ours is) doesn't stay up drinking until 4 or 5 am before a 9 am panel!

And, sadly, I have too changed in the past ten years. Some gray, a few wrinkles, and I go to bed at 4am instead of 5, now.

OK, I guess it could be called a genre...but I will say, there are plenty of of hard drinking/partying types still. I'm just no longer one of them...I just can't do it any more. I can survive with little sleep, but if I throw in the partying, I'm in trouble. Though thankfully I still don't get hangovers, one of the few blessings of my partying youth that still works.

But I think what really does you in is you've never had kids. If you had, you'd know that five hours sleep is a godsend, sober or drunk! ;^)
