warming up the signing hand, and fashion commentary

Hit some local bookstores and signed stock tonight. Waldenbooks only had one copy (boo!) but it was a mall store, so what can ya do? I spoke with a knowledgable and friendly clerk who said she would talk to her manager about getting more copies in for me to do an actual signing (yay!). The Borders at that mall (a stand-alone store) was better-stocked, and the signed and stickered copies will be placed up front. Yay Borders.

A lot more satisfying than signing media tie-ins or anthologies, indeed. And the reaction was really positive, which is nice for the first outing. Hopefully bodes well for the next month or so. Tomorrow, I hit the stores (including a B&N) in the other local-direction.


An aside: decided to do some clothes shopping while I was out. Tried on some great-looking suede skirts. Really sexy. Really, um, short. How the hell does anyone sit down in those skirts? I swear, there wasn't enough material cover both ass and crotch at the same time, if you did anything other than stand upright... Sexy is one thing, slut's not so much a look I want.

Pity. Another inch or so would have made the sale.


Oh, and speaking of fashon -- Bobby Flay, in that pimp-stripe suit tonight on Celebrity Poker, was an offense against color co-ordination eveywhere, and needs to be stopped. Can I get an amen on that?

Spotted four copies at my local B&N tonight and Amazon.com sent me "it's really shipped" notice for my pre-order. Hopefully it should be here sometime next week.

Sadly, my store only got one copy also, but it's a Mall-denbooks as well. I plan to make sure we get more in, and I shall then pimp it mightily.

I had a Conversation with a Mall-den today wherein they insisted that the book wasn't coming in until 28 August. And the manager wasn't in for me to speak with.

Amazing, that they're still in business.


On the plus side, four copies at the B&N that hadn't been shelved yet, and two copies at the mega-Borders which have been signed and stickered.

I now feel suitably warmed-up for tomorrow. Hopefully, it will be rewarded by people with books...

and, oh! frustration: while I was talking to the clerk, the woman who was paying for her books said "oh, if they have a copy, I'd like one." And so, of course, they didn't. She said she'd come back when they had them, but once they walk out of the store.... *sigh*

It was a fashion 911 if ever one appeared in Vegas. I kept wishing the guys would dress better on that show, but that wasn't better, it was just be-suited. Yes, guys, fashion sense does matter. Not to make you even more neurotic, but we do notice. We do judge.

Ah well. At least Flay also managed to prove to anyone who didn't know already that he's a clueless moron...

If I can get through this novel proposal from Hell and don't have to work on it during my lunch hour tomorrow, I'll check tomorrow at lunch. :)

Well, I'm happy to report that the B&N at Citigroup has 2 copies on the shelf (FWIW, they have 4 of Christie's, but I don't know how many they put out offhand).

The Borders at 57th and Park had 2 copies, but I managed to talk someone that appeared to be on the fence into getting a copy, so they now only have one on the shelf.

I went to my local Brooklyn B&N today, the one on Court Street, and I saw they had four or five copies of your book, all faced out and successfully shelved with the new sf & f books. I say successfully because, after all, we're dealing with B&N here.
