Five Things on Friday
May. 7th, 2010 06:14 amMy sympathies [and offers of strong drink] again to my UK friends. No matter who wins/loses, it's always the voters who get heartburn...
------------------------
Yesterday saw another 2,000 new words (more or less) on THE VINEART WAR #3, bringing me to 27,000 words and -- acknowledging that what had been in the outline no longer works, tossing that and doing something instead* and acknowledging the usage of [brackets of wisdom] in certain areas -- we come to the end of Part 1. One third of structural draft!
*moderate w00ting and in-progress joy*
Also, another 800 new words on the short story, and to the second twist and heading for draft. And with a burst of 1,300 words this morning, we have achieved draft of the soon-to-be-retitled "The Rat-King," at 8,060 words. Draftier than a drafty barn in mid-winter, but that's
okay. The structure is sound. I can fix everything else and have it in by Monday's deadline. Er. *knocks wood*
A good day all-around, at least on the writing front.
------------------------
Handed my old student desk (which was actually my dad's old student desk, which makes it a very inexpensive antique) over to a friend, which opened up space in my office considerably. (it was mainly being used as a cat-perch. Cat will adapt) I now have room to put in a new bookcase, which I needed more than a second desk. Now to go buy one... (as soon as certain invoices I forgot to send in get paid, anyway). The thought of having a new bookcase, however small, is such a cheerful one...
-------------------------
I seem to have done something to my hip/leg muscles. I can use the recumbent bike at the gym w/o pain, and walking on a straightaway or downhill isn't a problem, but when I try to walk up an incline not only do my quad muscles complain, I feel actively winded, as though I've been sick for a week. V. odd.... Am trying to maintain my workouts without stressing those muscles, which is harder than it sounds.
--------------------------
Today I am off for another round of puppy-sitting, with a new batch of submissions to read and marketing copy to write for the freelance gigs, and various Social Things. Y'all play nice while I'm gone, and have a good weekend...

Date: 2010-05-07 10:30 am (UTC)A propos of the leg-hip pain, do your cats sleep on you/near you at night? Because I get that problem too, and it's usually caused by sleeping in odd positions (often due to feline activity). I've found that putting an extra pillow under one knee at night helps avoid it.
