Oh NYC culinary choices, how I do love thee.

Last night, an expat New Yorker made reference to the "menu folder." This is a thing all New Yorkers Understand, and apparently folks in Texas do not. Your menu folder is a dragon's hoard, it is a jewelbox treasure, it is your life and your stomach's salvation. Even I, who order out rarely, have a menu folder.

My parents' menu folder? Is a Thing of Wonder. Especially in this neighborhood, which is overflowing with really good choices.

After much deliberation and consultation with my tastebuds, I went with Thai spring rolls and drunken noodle w/ chicken.

If you do not understand/enjoy the delicate tingling of the inside of your mouth and tongue that comes from properly spiced foods, you cannot understand this meal. If you do... I need say no more.

Except that I also have a Reisling kabinett to go with. And all my work for the day is done.

I'm jealous. In my region of Omaha there are only about two places that deliver, and the food from one of them's not worth eating. My menu folder is very slim. *sigh*

Of course, in Omaha there's no place more than half an hour away, either. So I guess there's not much demand. I know one thing: it's a damned GOOD thing nobody here delivers desserts!

I'm re-amassing mine. It's one of the drawers in the kitchen.

And yeah, it really is something you don't get if you don't live in a place like NYC. There were a few in Boston, but mostly pizza joints for the college kids.

I don't have a menu folder, but I have a menu drawer.

I found another vineyard for you to sign at (if I can just find the damn brochure again...)

Man. There are times when I really wish I understood food. You and a couple of other wise people on my flist make the art sound so tempting. ;)

Techie that I am, all menus are scanned, indexed and searchable :) My folder may not reach NYC standards but its about 20 items deep.

Mine is similarly virtual, as I seem to lose my menus as quickly as I accumulate them.

And you index yours...why?

Because I can? I have them all tagged with favorite items, so just typing in Burger brings up a list of options :)

I have a menu folder here at work since that's usually where someone will wander up around lunchtime and say, "Hey, you want to order out?"

Oh, and Reisling FTW! :D

ETA: I'm in West Palm Beach, FL, btw.
