After a morning being Virtuous and working, Cute Puppy and I spent a few hours in Central Park, hanging with the other puppes, kids of all ages, and perfect weather conditions (mid-60's, bright sunshine, slight breeze). Then it was downtown to meet up with The Known Troublemaker(s) from Texas for a beer at vol de noit (I had La Chouffe, which goes on the shortlist of beer_yums)

Although my plan had been to settle in and get some work done after, before the second part of the evening (while TKTT went to dinner with co-workers), they were kind enough to drag me along ("I travel with these guys, they know my stories. You're a new audience!") to Barbuto, where every dish was excellent (forks were flying around the table). My pan-fried skate wing was delish, but man it's been a while since I ate anything even remotely fried. My stomach was all "that's good. don't do that again for a few weeks, ok?" Next time you're in the West Village, try to get a meal there. Suri-recommended.

And then cross-the-villages to The Bourgeois Pig on the East Side. I'd been wanting to get there for a while and now I'm wondering what took me so long. Beautiful, just-shy-of-tacky space, great staff, very nice menu, good acoustics, at least where we were seated. Alas, I had to get home to take Cute Puppy for her walk, so I kept to a simple glass of wine (v. good, generous pour in a proper-sized glass) rather than some of the holleeeshit wine cocktails they have. Next time...

Today I was supposed to meet another friend for brunch, but we woke to pouring-down rain and exhaustion, and so have postponed for a better day. Good day to take advantage of NYC's delivery conucopia. Took Puppy for walk, now she is napping at my feet, and I have a manuscript to edit, and another one to write...

What are y'all up to?

I'm sorry to have missed it but had pre-existing plans. Glad to hear you enjoyed the Bourgeois Pig, have been wanting to go there myself.

Well, the first thing I'm up to is googline "skate wings" and then going "ew" which I realize is immature, and that there are many things I eat that are "ew" at first glance, if you only look and haven't actually tasted.

So, beyond that--

About to write. Yesterday was "take the dog to the vet day" which meant the day before was "give the dog a bath day" which meant "scrub the bathtub and bathroom day" in between the two.

And now, back into the Real World of my imagination, with these pesky artificial commitments hopefully shoved aside for awhile.

Once I saw one cooked, it looked much better. It was the image of the skate itself that was kind of disturbing. But the same can be said of many fishy foods, and I as a rule like them.

Upper left corner made me "ew."

Mmm. Today. Not much use to anyone. Listening to the game, as I think I jinx the Wings when I watch... oh, wait. Donald just switched over to the Tigers during period break. Made pizza with commercial refrigerated crust. Not doing that again. Cat and husband both insulted that I won't sit on the couch so that they can occupy my lap.

Feel like I should be writing. Also working on the Trangendered Pope project. Doing a bit of the latter.
