Dublin: Saturday before I Forget (part 1)
Mar. 7th, 2010 01:15 amSaturday morning I hit the snooze button three times. That's very unlike me. I blame the lack-of-cats. Despite that, I made it over in plenty of time for my 10am panel, "Is it time for the return of werewolves?" The general feeling was "hell yes" but we disagreed on the route they should take (and segued into a fun and slightly on-topic discussion of the tech of transformation in werewolf movies, and the need for implication versus the more overt vampire mythos.
[that reminds me: last night there was an impromptu meeting of the Order of the Nose. The Really Really Old Guy was discussed and praised]
For the first time ever I introduced myself as "Nebula-nominated." I liked it so much I said it a few times more. The audience was tolerantly amused by my antics.
Had my first chance to talk with GoH Nick Harkaway and Juliet McK, who had recovered from her travails of the day before, and then for lunch we were led to the local open-air market, where I consumed a savory crepe, and a thing called a "Millionaire's Bar" (cookie and caramel and chocolate). I think I can still feel the sugar in my veins.
More time in the bar (I drank tea, in an attempt to settle my blood sugar levels) and then onward to my second panel, "social media for the genre fiction world." Mainly, we agreed that it's part of the publishing landscape and you can either use it wisely or get swallowed by it (or avoid it entirely and lose out on the benefits). I talked about sitting down to figure out the different purposes of LJ, Facebook, and Twitter, and we discussed various ways to maximize the mileage while minimizing the timesink. Nobody liveblogged the panel, far as I know.
More time in the bar (wherein I wrote my entry for the drabble contest because wotthehell), and thence to Pictionary (Boys vs Girls).
I think that, and The Night, might require its own post... (um, later. sleep now)

Date: 2010-03-07 12:50 pm (UTC)Then again, I pretty much had my fill of werewolves after role-playing White Wolf's Werewolf: The Apocalypse.
Still fun to read, but I want to see authors push the envelope.
