Snowblogging
Feb. 10th, 2010 06:57 am7AM: Blizzard warning in effect from about 4 this morning to 6am Thursday, which means that in addition to snow (check) we're getting heavy and possibly blinding winds (check). Which means "if you can stay inside, do so" (check). So far only 1" or so on the ground, but it's coming down fast & slanted.
Traffic on the main road moving at its usual pace, but no movement at all on my side street. Cars are parked regulation distance from each other, allowing space for snow removal. I suspect a lot of people are sleeping in/taking the day off....
Working on a snow icon.
8:30AM: Plows heard rumbling along the main street, but otherwise traffic has significantly fallen off. Fat, fluffy flakes falling fast. Maybe 1" an hour? Looks about right. My street looks untouched save for snowdogs and their heavily-bundled-up walkers. Cats are bored and have gone back to sleep in their usual positions.
9:20AM: 2nd plow just came through my street. Looks like 3-4" accumulation now shoved against the parked cars. Hrm. Just turned back to look, and the road's white-covered again.
10:30AM: Not sure I'd call this blizzard conditions -- I can still see the road -- but it's pretty fierce out there, and the snow is clearly falling in a cyclone-fashion rather than straight down (or even straight sideways). Plows go by on a regular basis on the main road, which is an emergency-vehicles route. My street, not so much; the road's thickly white again.
