Wednesday is a lot like...Wednesday, actually.

Last of the pre-made waffles and the homemeade apple sauce for breakfast. They were yummy, and I am sad. But there is still white bean and parsnip soup in the freezer, and short ribs marinating for dinner in the fridge. So comfort food abounds.

In appreciation of yesterday's migraine, I did not go to the gym this morning. To show its thanks, the brain wrote 1500 2,500 new words on FIRE BREAK before 9am 10:30am. Now, if I could only get the Paris story to behave so well...

At some point this week I'm going to have to get back to the novel-length things. They're lurking, waiting.... making restless, hungry noises in the shadows....

I have a lot to do but it's all manageable. Truly. I've got it all totally. Under. Control.

Thank gods Fresh Direct is delivering more coffee today.



And new Leverage tonight! Not that I'm totally geeked out, or anything. (the excitement among fans is much akin to the anticipation of New Who, except w/o the fear that they'll screw it up)

Ooh now. I have parsnips in my veg bag. I took one look and thought "soup".

White bean and parsnip. Mmm. *thinks...*

What else goes in there?

Not much, truthfully. A few cups of soaked beans, a couple-three parsnips in equitable measure, sliced, a handful of browned garlic cloves, chicken stock, um... onion, likewise browned, and a few shakes of fennel and, um, salt and pepper, that was it. Simmer a few hours, cool-and-puree, return to pot and season to taste. Could use vegetable stock for a purely vegetarian meal, or throw in some bacon to smoke it up. Mmm, wish I'd had bacon.

Currently have short ribs in the oven, for a treat. I love winter cooking. :-)

Yup. That's more or less what I figured, but I thought I'd check in case there was something I hadn't thought of.

Also, I have bacon. At least, I have smoked pork loin, which can stand in for bacon. Also, smoked garlic. (There was this smokery, see...)

Maybe some rosemary? I can't see white beans without wanting to chuck some rosemary at 'em.

I didn't use rosemary because I wanted the fennel to come through most strongly, and rosemary tends to elbow her way to the front of the stage.
