okay, am thinking of buying a Wii Fit (because I are sheeeeeep. Also, because it looks like fun).

What do I absolutely NEED to get started, from a base of zero?

A Wii console with remote and nunchuck, the Wii Fit board, and the game disk. You can buy all of these together as a bundle.

Oh, and get the new Wii Fit Plus. It's way cooler than the original Wii Fit.

The Wii. The Wii Fit Plus. A TV to plug them into.

The plus comes with the balance board and the disc. The Wii comes with the remote and nunchuk.

Altogether, it's $300, and it's awesome.

That's an absolute standard price for that bundle.

That's what you need to start.

A TV to plug them into.

I'd say that's the most critical item outside of the Wii.

I think Jon scooped me, but I'll admit I was snarkier. ;-)

I should mention that there's an earlier version without the "Plus" which you shouldn't get. They were still working out the bugs.

What Marina said. Unless you're in the market for one rightdamnnow, let me finish unpacking and you can come over and see what it's like. I dont have the Wii Fit Plus yet, but I do have the original.

Thinking about this further, I seem to remember the salesman trying to sell extra controllers and battery-chargers too, which you may or may not need.

I are also sheep!!!

I think I need one too. Or at least I'm trying to persuade everyone else in the family of that. :D

I just got one for the bday. While I see a lot of potential in it, its definitely not a replacement for gym visits. But for days when I can't get out it seems to fit (no pun intended) right in as part of a routine.

Some of the games are great stealth exercises too :)

the basics essentials have already been pointed out, but one thing to at least think about -- if you want to do the step aerobics routines on there, getting a riser that will raise the wii platform to the height of a standard step. I've got this one (http://www.amazon.com/Aerobics-Step-Platform-Wii-Fit-Nintendo/dp/B0028IDSWE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1263179190&sr=8-2) and it works pretty well. But so you know, the step aerobics routine is a fairly mild version of step aerobics -- much better than walking, but not probably not as vigorous as a real step aerobics routine.

This can wait until you've played around with it, though.

I got the battery pack for the Fit, but then sold it to a friend since I wasn't using it every day and like most rechargeables it ran down in between uses. So I use regular disposible batteries in it.

I also got the Fit cover (mine's green with feet marked on it) to keep it clean and it's a non-slip silicone which I like. Keeps the dust out of it when I'm not using it often.

I have the original and liked it a lot. Daughter has it right now but I'm looking forward to getting it back.

This sheep is pretty pleased with the results from a regular routine. Not a gym, but I did lose weight. I am very much looking forward to getting back into it as soon as I am cleared (should be the end of this week). We also plan to get the WiiFit Plus.

We have a plain silicone cover. I'd like to get one with feet. Cute, plus easier to see the feet. Or where my feet ought to be.
