mid-day report: Waiting for Snowpocalypse
Dec. 19th, 2009 12:15 pmNoon -- no snow, although it is cold and bitter outside. Snow could only improve the situation. Downtown (which is actually UP the hill from me) is bustling, which is unusual as this is a heavily Sabbath-observant area, and Saturday mornings tend to be quiet. Bakery was out of bread, supermarkets looked packed (I refused to go in) and the local greenmarket had moved all their flowers and produce inside, rather than the normal sidewalk display. To all intents and purposes, the neighborhood is preparing for seige (in truth, the mentality was much the same, with lots of dubious looks from whence our Enemy comes, etc).
On my way home, I saw a sand truck and a plow make their way through the streets, checking the placement of cars and whatnot along their route. I suspect the cops will be out and ticketing/towing as soon as a snow emergency is officially called.
It should just start already, please. Or skip us entirely -- at this point, we just want to KNOW.
EtA: external light just changed drastically -- enough that I noticed it with my back to the window. Hrm.
EtA2: reports have it snowing uptown Manhattan, but not in Inwood. Sloooowly it moves north...
EtA3: Snowpocalypse begins. Maybe. It looks pretty determined, coming down...

Date: 2009-12-19 06:40 pm (UTC)If I didn't have a gazillion cookies to bake this afternoon, I'd be curling up with Flesh and Fire, or maybe I can just peek from time to time if I'm firm with myself and don't get drawn in. Or maybe I should save it until after Cookie-Baking. Safer that way :-)
ETA: Oh, looks like you got it earlier; I could see on the radar map that there was a doughnut of clear air over Manhattan and the Harbor, so I could see you folks slightly North getting it first.
