lagilman: coffee or die (no holiday music)

Just realized I'd never posted the winner of the last Feline Picspam Caption Contest! My bad.

There were a lot of good entries, and I finally decided on a tie for first place:

And on the count of four, the epic thumb-wrestling* tournament will begin... [livejournal.com profile] isabeau
and
Cat Fight: the energy-saver version [livejournal.com profile] neko_san

Step forward and name your prize, folks!

Today I went into Manhattan with The Folks to check out the new Costco up on 116th St. It is indeed a CostCo (although without the liquor section, which made me sad). I was restrained in my acquisitions because I was taking the bus back, but fully expect to rent a car and head down later in the month when I start party prep. Also, bulk cat fud. Yay! (I save about .10/can buying from CostCo vs local supermarket)

Overall, though, it's still an OMG Ack! Scary Consumer place.

And then I came home and collapsed for an hour. Too much noise, too many people, too many reminders of why I tend to avoid mid-lower Manhattan in December... except the Holiday Craft Fairs are up and running! And the skating rink's open! And.. oh hell. If I kill a tourist or two, nobody will mind, right?

Anyone else out there find the "OMG Jollility! Festive Mood! Now!" attitude of merchants and overenthusiastic celebrants to be, shall we say, wearying? Is there a single city or town in North America that keeps it toned down and household-bound? Because I'm really tempted to move there, one month out of every year...

"If I kill a tourist or two, nobody will mind, right?"

Go for it, dude!*

*'Dude,' in the 'generic term for someone one likes' sense, not in the male sense.

I was in Manhattan one year a couple of days after Xmas, and I have to admit that the one thing that was fabulous were the Christmas decorations. NYC does do those right. And you don't have to go inside anywhere if you don't want to.

Well, you know, for a tourist from Montana, it was lovely just to walk the streets. I think it was how large the decorations had to be against the backdrop of the towering buildings. But I know what you mean. wouldn't want all the shit before. This is one of those times that being from the backend of nowhere is a good thing. The TV still gets old, but I don't have most of the rest because the town is just so small. I can enjoy the lights against the snow and that's about all I get most of the time.

Oh, I should say too that I was only thinking of me when i said I didn't have to go into places. Cause I'm completely solipsistic :D But it was fun being able to walk around and see everything.

Belated \o/ is belated. (And stressed. Who decided that everything should happen at once at the beginning of December, anyway?)

...and, er. What all is available as options to claim, aside from not Vineart?

Eeeeeeee! *claps hands and dances* then *falls over coughing from this damned cold I've had since October*.

I think I must say Staying Dead, because it doesn't hurt to have a spare copy to lend out.

BTW, I've been very much enjoying Flesh and Fire. My sweetie picked up a copy from Mysterious Galaxy, and there was much squeeing when I found that it was indeed autographed.
