Operation Gingerbread Cake has been deemed a success, and packed up for transport. Now to see if it actually survives until T'giving... am off to the Family Gathering, wine and food and puppy in tow.

This has been a year, like most years, of serious Ups and Downs. If I had to pick one thing to be thankful for, though, it's that I can say, with absolute honesty: It's a good life. Not every minute, not even every day. Lots of room for improvement on all fronts. But...good. And it's good because I'm making it be good, by choosing the things that work for me, trying to avoid the things that make me sad or angry, and owning those actions, being mindful of them. I'm thankful for the (hard-won) ability to do that.

How about y'all?

The year was, well, a year.

My wife and family are doing well and are reasonably healthy. (Okay, there's a couple of colds the kids have, but that's normal for this time of year.) We survived H1N1, and emerged with wits intact.

For all the shenanigans that my employer and industry pulled this year, I am happy I'm employed. Just don't tell my employer that, as management has been reminding us grunts of how grateful we ought to be at every opportunity for the better part of the past decade.

Finally, I'm thankful to friends and acquaintances for just being who they are.

It has been a year, hasn't it?

Like you, I'm grateful that it *is* a good life and that I have the ability to choose and to make a thoughtful choice. Thanks for being there, as you consistently inspire me, entertain me (love your books!) and I am very glad to have gotten to know you online.

Happy pre-Turkey day!!

In the most immediate and primal spheres, I am thankful that my wife and twins-to-be are healthy.

And I'm thankful for my family.

In the rest of my life, I'm thankful that this year has seen me go from an author with zero fiction pubs and a bunch of rough novel chunks to an author with three high-profile short fiction sales and a novel draft.

And I'm thankful for having met many cool people this year, including yourself.

Gobble gobble!

I'm very thankful that I have a husband who loves me enough to continue taking care of me and taking care of many of the household duties despite my being sicker than he'd really bargained for. I'm thankful that I have a good doctor who, while not able to restore my health to a point where I can be truly productive, believes in good pain management and so my pain is at tolerable levels instead of the hell I was in for so many years. I'm thankful that I have wonderful friends -- many of whom are writers who STILL encourage me despite my lack of output. I'm thankful that I'm an American. I'm thankful that it appears I'm finally going to get my puppy! And so much more...
