other people being smart
Nov. 23rd, 2009 09:52 amI have lots of content brewing, but nothing ready to serve just yet. So I send you elsewhere this Monday morning.
Jim Hines on Mythbusting the "my book is my baby" trope
Jackie Kessler breaks down the Harlequin Horizons Problem, for those who missed it the first time around. and does a follow-up. And another breakdown that makes my points for me, thank you Jackie!
If you don't understand the difference between "I'm going to do all the work myself and keep all the profits"[self-publishing] and "we will make money off you, but make you do all the work" [scams] then this series is a must-read. And I say that as a former NYC Major Company book editor, not just as a writer, people (so don't try that "you're just trying to keep us down/you don't understaaaaand!" crap on me, because I will kick your ass into a corner for a Time-Out).
EtA: and more Smart on the topic from Rachel Caine, in which she discusses the fact that the name of the publishing game is Risk --on all sides.
