I haven't done any reading for months; my eyes are just too bad. I have to get glasses, but funding them is a bit of an issue right now; probably in a month. I miss reading, though! I'm really looking forward to this book; you know I love all your work, but this has really sounded like something very very special.

I never think my work completely sucks (that's Locus' job). I just think it could always have been better if I'd had, oh, another year to rewrite it entirely....

Books impact us all in different ways but when we read that book that makes us go "wow" we become evangelists. I'm certainly going to pick up the book now.

(One out in California got a book in, sold it the first day according to their records... and wasn't going to order another.)

Believe me, I noticed. It's as if the suits decided sometime this past spring to make Borders a 5-10 author store.

What also sucks is the apparent desire by Barnes and Noble to relocate to the exurbs. If it weren't for the major independent in the area (and the Waldenbooks that acts like an independent), we'd be sunk for bookstores around here.

Interestingly, we seem to have almost as many B&N in Manhattan as Starbucks (okay, not per-store, but certainly per square footage). None in my immediate neighborhood, though, which is...probably better for my wallet. Besides, they deliver for free.

Congrats on the awesome (and completely well-deserved) review.

My reaction on finishing the book was basically, "THAT'S why I buy the first book in a series in paperback, so if it's this totally awesome I can run right out and get book 2 in hardcover, and now I'll probably have to wait an entire year for book 2 WAAAH!" :-)

Sweet review, but one quibble. How many books do you need to have out before you've ceased to be an "emerging" author? You've emerged, baby!
