I am informed that Amazon.com and BN.com have shipped Flesh and Fire a smidge earlier than street date. So help me out, guys! Send me a photo* of Flesh and Fire in the wild (a bookstore shelf, in a shipping box, already at home on your reading table...!)
Firstten eight six [four down already!] to do so will get a Limited Edition Vineart War traveling corkscrew, perfect for tailgates, conventions, and using as a makeshift tool to get cat hair out of the keyboard (not recommended by manufacturer of either corkscrew or keyboard).
* or a screen capture if you bought the digital version. In fact: separate contest for digital readers! First five e-reader sightings will also get a corkscrew!
"Surfacing, gasping as cool air replaced the liquid in his lungs, spluttering and coughing, Jerzy grabbed blindly, his fingers closing around the smooth metal band of the vat’s rim. He hauled himself out, throwing his legs over the edge and dropping down onto the ground. His pants made a sodden noise against his legs, and his skin prickled in the suddenly cold, dry air. A rivulet of mustus ran down his face, and he licked the drop off his lips without hesitation. It was clean and sweet and sang on his tongue."

Date: 2009-10-11 02:30 pm (UTC)Oh, you sound so excited about this release. I know the book will sell a billion copies.
JC and I are going to be Houston next week, and we have a few "stop in" signings planned. There is a huge Borders and several large B&N stores in the area. I'll make certain FLESH AND FIRE is face out in the new release section everywhere.

[and I'd settle for, oh, 50,000 copies sold. Think we can do that, Universe?]

Date: 2009-10-11 03:20 pm (UTC)Oh, don't worry!
I know it's not *supposed* to matter, but in the early days of a new series, a cover can make a lot of difference--just until word-of-mouth kicks in--and you have a drop dead gorgeous cover on this novel.
And Pocket is really good about getting the books into the bookstores. To me, those two things matter more than anything.
I'm sure this book is going to do very well.

Date: 2009-10-11 04:22 pm (UTC)I'd go photograph it, but at the moment I'm taking a break from a morning of outlining, out on the hammock and watching the pup frolic in the yard.
Book Photo!

Date: 2009-10-12 02:25 am (UTC)Finished the book this weekend and have to say I really enjoyed it. Seems like every word was crafted with care and the ingenious world building around the vintner's art was amazing. The characters were not your ordinary fantasy cookie cutter blueprints (Loved...loved...loved Giordan..somehow I can almost picture him in my mind.)Can't look at a glass of wine the same way again. Can't wait for more. Brava!
