I have a cat in my lap, another blinking sleepily at me like a zoned-out puma, new music on the speakers (Coyote Grace, in case anyone's wondering) and half 2/3rds of my to-do list knocked off for the day.

Of course, there's something simmering in the depths that's about to add itself on to The List, so I can't be complacent...

but for now? Is nice. *breathes*

Okay, and because the question was asked a few times this past weekend, I'm asking you:

[Poll #1457503]

EtA: man, you guys know how to make a writer feel loved. :-( Just for that, no more Leverage squee! (at least until Season 2b restarts in January)

Because you asked, I'll tell you what I think and why.

I think a newsletter is a good idea for an author. I think that once a month is the most you could get away with. Any more frequently and it becomes spam.

My suspicion is that much of the content would be stuff gleaned from your LJ, which is why I wouldn't subscribe--I get all that info here. But there are surely folks who want news of you and don't follow LJ (what's wrong with them?) that might enjoy a digest update of all the news of you and your books.

On the other hand, it's a question of your time and energy. Where is your best energy investment?

What is your goal for the newsletter? Is it to reach people who don't do social networking, or do you want to transition some items that would ordinarily go to LJ/Facebook/Twitter/Website into a newsletter?

The one thing you don't want to do is create unnecessary work for yourself; our lives are busy enough without intentionally piling on.

At least you didn't revoke the feline picspam as well.

Exactly that. Quarterly is ideal; writers don't actually generate enough News! to justify anything more frequent. And there are people out there who won't read LJ or engage in any kind of social networking, but would appreciate the plain uncluttered News! of LAG - so, yup. Quarterly newsletter, subscribe from the website with a single click, ideal...

Off topic: Just heard that one section of NPR's "Talk of the Nation" program tomorrow is going to be on Google and its project to 'put all books that have been printed in digital format'. I hope that some of you who have been wading through the copyright misery that they have invented will be able to voice your opinions. I will be listening hoping that they will have their ears well and truely pinned back.

I would like a newsletter for news-y things, even though I read your LJ, because for some reason I find e-mails more useful as prompts to, say, mark something in my calendar.

I'd really prefer the newsletter via email. Not because I don't like physical mail but because it would be faster for you to alert us via email. (I do read both your LJ and Twitter but I'd prefer an e-newsletter.

You can leave out Leverage squee, but we still demand feline picspam! ;-)

An e-mail list for when you'll appear in faraway-to-you but near-to-others places might be nice, if there were some program to do it easily. For instance, I'd love to know if you were doing a signing in Chicago or Milwaukee.

Aww! No Leverage squee? Dang it! Can't we want a newsletter and squee? These polls are too restrictive.

I'm glad you're enjoying Coyote Grace. They are one of my favorite groups. You might also like Girlyman. Beautiful harmonies and smart, funny lyrics.
