a tease from the WiP...
Jun. 22nd, 2009 09:50 amThe Guardian was incapable of sounding smug. It was purely Malech’s own imagination that put that tone of self-satisfaction into its mental voice. That made it no less annoying.
EtA: realized halfway through chapter 5 that something I had in chapter 2 was contraindicated by events in Book 1. Thankfully at this point it's going to be easy enough to fix, if frustrating. Am glad I caught it now, though, instead of in chapter seventeen... Trilogies. We hates them, we does, this silly Continuity stuff.
Still, 2100 new words for the morning. Not shabby. And still not raining!

The answer is mead...

Date: 2009-06-23 02:54 pm (UTC)Once again we have a trio of heroes, they even fill similiar roles to Wren, PB and Sergei! Once again, we have a magic system that combines something from the natural world with some mysterious talent of specific individuals to find a blending of magic... Once again, I had a book that I just couldn't put down and am left with the thought "Whaddya mean I have to wait another year or more for the next one?!? And whaddya mean the author publically took GRRM's stance on that already?" :-)
There's a fantasic formula distilled here into a unique and savory blend of magic and intrigue. I'd gleefully recommend kicking back with a copy and a glass of your favorite wine -- that is, I would save that if the reader is anything like me -- the wine would soon be forgotten as the quickly turning pages cast their own spell...
Or...something to that effect will likely make it's way on Amazon and B&N's review pages...Never received an ARC before so trying to curb the inclination to rattle off about ALL the nifty things I found there -- or even to ask if the ideas that spring up for titles to books 2 and 3 are appropriate... Ooh...Patience is soo hard!
Then there's the geek side, who loves that so much is still mysterious about these magical systems both Current and Vineart (even if I keep somehow reading that as VineHeart)... Such as, do Current users have artifacts that can work as transformers, resistors or load coils? Are there vineart legacies that include distilled spellwine? What about infusions or are there similiar powers say associated with the fermentation of other spirits or say cheese?
