eeep, puppy neep, and a link of outrage
Jun. 12th, 2009 11:09 amCurrently house- and puppy-sitting for the folks. Who knew it could be so dangerous?

I'm fine, if a little shaken. The fixture (heavy tempered glass that, for the record, didn't even chip) missed me by inches. The folks say they were planning to update the bathroom anyway but I still feel guilty somehow...
In happier news, Mei-Chan has a purple wubbie now. Much improved over the old pink one. I think she, wubbie, and I are going to go in search of a good piece of chocolate, now. Nerve tonic. I think it's warranted.
And, on a slightly related-to-the-first note, a bit of outrage/
WASHINGTON — As the health care debate heats up, the American Medical Association is letting Congress know that it will oppose creation of a government-sponsored insurance plan
AMA = Part of the Problem, Now.
Apparently they're willing to opt out of the existing plans because it costs them too much money/time/effort to participate, but they don't think their patients should have a system _they_ can afford to use, rather than opting out of medical care entirely, or going bankrupt trying to pay their fees. Fkcuers.

Date: 2009-06-12 03:52 pm (UTC)As to the health care system, I am ALL FOR a bit of an eye for an eye here. Can we take away the AMA executives' health insurance for a few years and watch them scream?

Date: 2009-06-12 07:04 pm (UTC)The AMA has long been a pain in the ass regarding health reform. As the people who represent the interests of doctors (translation: are trying to keep doctors' profits as high as possible), they are actively fighting to keep the current system as much as possible.
Have you ever heard Operation:Coffeecup? Back in the day, when Kennedy was trying to create decent health care, the AMA hired Ronald Reagan to record an album talking about Medicare, communism, government getting between you and your doctor, etc. They sent those albums to the wives of doctors in the AMA, with the idea that they'd gather in groups over coffee and listen.
They've been stabbing the American public in the back (with a scalpel!) for decades, which is one of the reasons we spend so very much on our health care--because so very much of the money is going to them.

Date: 2009-06-12 10:47 pm (UTC)In this area if you need to see a dermatologist, better plan for it 12, yes twelve, months ahead, leasions or no.
And the so called Mass health plan sucks. If you are in the subsidized group, good luck finding a doctor, once you have plowed through the bureaucratic missfileings (and they don't have an 800 number so it ends up costing a bundle to straighten up any problems. Unless you are really indigent the copays are a killer. I am just above the subsidised threshold, so am told that I have to go get insurance at commercial rates. (For a piss poor catastrophic policy at an astronomical sum) Which means that the reason that I haven't gotten insurance so far still holds.
I'd like to know how many insurance company contributions Mittens Romney raked in after he pushed that one through the legislature and then skedaddled out of state to try out for the Republican Presidential Follies?
