Cosmic Cat Durablock scratching post? Every household should have one.

Actually, every household should have one per cat. The one I brought home yesterday has become a hotly-contested item, second only to possession of mom's lap.

I can see another trip to the pet store this weekend. Hey, if it makes them happy and keeps them out of the book closet... (they love the boxes books get shipped in, too)

And note to self: when closing linen closet door, make sure there is no cat inside. She'll only sleep so long, and a locked-in kitten is a LOUD kitten....

My cats used to not cry, but rather pathetically stick their feet under the door.

I've got three scratching pads for my two cats - two in the living room, and one in the garage (the garage is actually nice; it's the only carpeted room in the house). I thought it was hilarious when we got the second scratching pad in the living room...
Madeleine: My scratchie pad!!
Phoenix: Oh look, here's another. I'll sit here.
Madeleine: NO! I shall come over and beat you up. If it's good, it's mine! I shall sit here!
Phoenix: Okay, I'll sit on the one you just left then.
Madeleine: NONONO! All are all mine! Off! I sit here!
Phoenix: Um, oh dear. I sit on this other one you just left?
Madeleine: Wait! That is mine! Off, you!
Phoenix: I guess i can go back over here then, yes?
Madeleine: People, help! What have you done? They are both the best and both all mine, but I can only sit on one at once! This is horrible!

*shakes head*

At least they know how to "share" now; Madeleine will let Phoenix sit on one since she can sit on the other. I think it helps that they aren't within view of each other (a small sofa is between them).

If I search for the fabulous fantastic scratch pad you speak of, I get this LJ entry and little else. My googlefu has failed me, can you give more info?

(Always trying ways to make the cats happy so they don't let themselves get beaten up by the two year old out of boredom.)

I've had mine for about two years now. I'm afraid to replace the block for fear of rejection. Then again, anything can be rectified by a suitable amount of catnip...

Addendum to NtS: Keep linen closet door OPEN because black cat will freak out and shed all over white sheets at the drop of anything.

I did that to poor Ezra once. Unfortunately, he doesn't have much of a voice, so it was a while before I realized he was shut in.

We have Cosmic's Catnip Alpine Scratcher, which has been the beloved friend of three generations of catkids -- which you can tell by the duct tape. *G* But the little dangly mouse inside is still going strong!
