First off -- condolences to my friends out there in the heat-baked lands who don't enjoy springtime temps of 90+ (and you wanted me to MOVE out there? Um....no. Thank you. I'll keep my rainy-and-60 Spring, thanks muchly)

I have a post up @ Bookview Cafe, talking about the joys (not) of dealing with a copy-edit, and when it's okay to admit that you need help...

On a not-quite-related note, I'm on several publishing-oriented news and job lists. This teaser-link came through one today, and all I could think was "OMG, seriously? No, seriously?"
You’re so Perfect for the Job Why Don’t They Call You Back?
If you have been applying for jobs without not a lot of success you are not alone, most job applicants complain about exactly the same thing. Lot’s of application, lot’s of resumes, no interviews, no callbacks.…
Life Lesson: Anything that makes me feel good about MY proofreading skills? Bad, bad, and also bad. *facepalm*
-----------------------------------------
On the writing front, I 'only' got 2,000 new words yesterday in Word War but they were fun bits, including possibly the worst interruption of a sexual fantasy ever. *grin* Also put down about 750 words on a new story, and have figured out what it wants to do, which is always nice. Ahead of schedule, even. No work on PoL, though, due to Social Life Interrupting. Today is All About PoL. After Word War, anyway.
--------------------------------------------------
Okay, onward to the Castle-squee.
An invasion on York St? My folks used to live on York. Eeek.
"how often are people killed in this part of town?"
"Same as anyone else. Only once."
"And you write for a living?"
Daughter is a PR flack. Nice throwback of all the speeches, both in RL and on the pixelated screen.
A diss on the New York Times review. Oh, snerk and snap!
and now on to the actual thoughts...
For the first time I actually wished for more murder-plot and to keep the family stuff in supporting position.... it was an interesting crime and I felt they used too many shortcuts to solve it. On the other hand, we saw some significant strides in the partnership -- "as a friend, I'm asking you..." followed by the "I'm protecting my people" zinger, which he took to heart. Rick Castle is careless, but he's not an idiot.
I really do wish they'd let Beck- Kate have something appropriate in her closet, though. I can't believe there's a woman in NYC that doesn't have some version of black cocktail dress in her closet* -- or can't buy it on a moment's notice, even on a cop's salary. Then they could have let Mom offer the jewelery without the whole "Cinderella dress" moment [also: was it me or was that dress not all that? Maybe it's just me...]
*ritual disclaimer: I own three, one for each season. But once upon a time I had to go to a lot of cocktail parties/awards banquets, and these outfits, bless them, don't go out of style.

Date: 2009-04-21 01:32 pm (UTC)The dress Castle gave her seemed inappropriate for a "serious" party. Cover yourself up girl!
Patrick Bauchau is awesome as always.
Castle alone in the cop car is the classic "little kid in a man's body". Do we know what his favorite cop show is? Streets of San Francisco? Hill Street Blues? NYPD Blue? I didn't catch what theme song he was singing (I missed part of the episode, was he even singing a theme song of a cop show in our universe?)

"The white whale." [snicker]
