this is just to say...
Apr. 20th, 2009 08:39 amAt the gym this morning, three men come into the floor-work area while I was doing my cool-down. Maybe late 20's, at a quick glance, and strongly built in a way that was different from a lot of the weight-rats you see in this gym. One white, one black, one either white or hispanic. One of the white guys says to the other: "I need advice. No, I need good advice." And starts to talk about someone he knows ("you remember x, we were in basic together" he says to the third guy). Apparently he's discovered that X, just out of service, has gotten into weed and E, and just used his bonus money to buy a large amount of weed to resell. And the three of them start running though ways -- from a straight-forward intervention to getting veteran services involved, to drag their friend away from a Very Bad Career Choice.
Guys? You're not reading this, and you don't know I was listening. But even if you can't help your friend -- and you may not be able to -- you made one tired, cynical woman's morning a lot better. If it's not terribly presumptuous to say -- I'm really really proud of you.
