lagilman: coffee or die (midnight cravings)

EtA: Contest is closed, and the new netbook is bought. So I'm closing this thread to comments. Winner will be announced soon.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
I was going to post the Author's Letter from MIDNIGHT CRAVINGS to kick off the contest posting entry, but this morning I am posting from a Distant Location on a Foreign Laptop, as my netbook was infected by an alien squid creature (seriously, the screen has a distinct squid-like shape along cracks within the display itself, and pass the toke, the toke is ded).

So. This is the Toke Memorial Contest Post. Leave a comment and be entered to win not only a copy of the new Nocturne anthology MIDNIGHT CRAVINGS but a copy of THE NIGHT SERPENT (by yours truly, aka Anna Leonard) and Chocolate!

You can also leave me advice or opinions about what new netbook to buy, as I'll be shopping this weekend...

(non-lj-ers, please identify your post so I can find you if you win!)

My condolences on your loss. I once had to go two days without my computer. It was horrid! Fortunately, it recovered and is now better than ever

The MacBooks are very nice. Practically no virus worries...a stable OS...the alumninum ones are nice and light...just sayin'!

Oh, no! I'm so sorry to read about the demise of Toke. Did it get dropped on its head?

I'm very happy with the Asus-1000(blanking on the attending letters, and The Leewit is at home), with the 10-inch screen. It's (slightly) heavier than Toke was, though it still fits handily into my bag, and the bigger keyboard is worth the extra weight, says She of Very Large Hands.

ooh! I'm in :)

I have a Dell Mini 9 which is nice, though a little slow to boot up. The ' key is in a weird place - below the . instead of next to , but after maybe two sessions of 20 minutes or so I found it easy to adjust to, and easy to switch between that and regular keyboard.

One of my friends has an Acer of some sort that she seems really happy with. I think she just uses it for web-browsing.

My cousins recommend Kohjinsha -- I think it's because they are jealous of my touchscreen Toshiba laptop.

I'm telling you, you've never properly revised on a laptop until you can write on it.

Sorry to hear about your laptop. I'm still playing with my laptop. (Been on a desktop for over 10 years. Portability is weird.)

I second the MacBook. I've heard good things about it. I currently use an Acer Extensa 4420 and it's good for the purpose I need but the start up and shut down time is on the slow side.

Good luck on your hunt for a new 'puter.

I'm in love with my MSI Wind u120. Boots up in under 2 minutes, is peppy, has a good sized HD (for all the *ahems* I download), and fits neatly in my largest purse. All of the good.

I will admit to weirdness here - having never adjusted to a touchpad, I am a confirmed and avowed thinkpad user. I love having a pointing device (trackpoint) that I can use without lifting my typing hands off the keyboard . . .

Books GOOD! I love my Sony but keep looking at Eee's and thinking they might be useful.

I loved DREAMCATCHER, but put off getting THE NIGHT SERPENT, so I'd love to win a copy! And, of course, chocolate is always good.

I have no advice on netbooks, being chained to a desktop machine myself.

I'm sorry to hear about the death by squid of your notebook. Toke is dead. Long live toke!

RIP, Toke. :-(

Though I'm still learning my way around it, I quite like my MacBook, a sleek number named after Barney (Stinson).

Oh, man, few things drive me up a tree like computers croaking. :( My sympathies.

I have an Acer Aspire One and love it passionately. I got an older Linux config partly for thesolid-state drive (verrrrry lightweight) but they seem to have mostly rolled over to Windows configs now.

Bye bye, Toke. Um, check Gizmodo and Consumerist for their daily deals - they often find great netbook prices. Gizmodo also reviews netbooks regularly.

Although I do already have a copy of The Night Serpent, autographed by you in lolcat style. :)

Sorry about your laptop. Macbooks I've heard are good, but they're expensive. I've been looking at some HP's and those are pretty nice, and for a good price.

Poor Toke! :( Toke, who I hope had a full and useful life, will be missed.

I haven't a laptop to my name, but I keep eyeing the MacBooks.

You aren't alone - I hate trackpads, and just can't get on with them. I was thinking of buying a netbook, but for about the same price picked up a refurbished Thinkpad X41.

I am so sorry about your computer. I would seriously be losing my mind if that happened. I start to get annoyed just when my internet goes down.

Love love the cover.

I'd love a laptop! Good luck finding one you like.

Also, I'd love to be entered in the contest. (-:

Excited about MIDNIGHT CRAVINGS! Count me in!
Gosh on the computer! Is a notebook like a laptop or one of the smaller ones? I know I would like to get one of those smaller ones too. I'm not much help with that but would love to know which you ended up getting and their features!

Me!
I like books almost as much as I like my cats.
Except books don't run around and bat at each other.

Count me in ! :)

Very sorry to hear about your laptop. Now, any time there's a contest involving a good book and chocolate, I'm interested! So, please enter me as well. E-mail me at skerry[at]infionline.net if I'm fortunate enough to win.

My deepest sympathy on the loss of Toke. :(
Yeah! New shiny notebook!

Thanks for having the contest!

And way off topic...I realized the other day I haven't seen you post much about riding lately, have you stopped or is everything still going well?
