lagilman: coffee or die (love is magic)

Saint Martin is still paradise, although a more built-up one than during our last visit (when they were still recovering from a terrible storm season). Four days of almost perfect weather followed by four less-so-but-still-warm days, interspersed with wonderfuly wild storms at night. Lots of beach-lounging, which has left my skin bronzed and my hair tri-colored, and lots of bar and casino-hopping, and lots and lots of eating. The town of Grand-Case bills itself as the "Gourmet Capital of the Caribbean" and they're not kidding. I miss Boulevard d'Grand-Case terribly. Or at least my taste buds do, if not my waistline. Mmmmmm. Love good food. Love good French-Caribbean food.

Didn't get to do much snorkeling because the storms left the waters too rough, but we did go horseback riding along the beach. Our guide forgot to tell me that Dancer, my mount, was still trying to decide if he was going to let a newcomer into 'his' herd, so we had some dominance snapping on the trail. This is what happens when you tell them that yes, you have experience with horses... thankfully I hadn't been bs-ing, so when Dancer tried to charge-and-savage the newcomer behind him, I knew what to do (and learned some new phrases in French from our guide, to boot). Other than that adrenaline spike, the ride was smooth and lovely, and I highly recommend Bayside Stables, not only for their people but their horses. Even rotten-tempered old man Dancer, who underneath that attitude had some lovely gaits.

We also stopped in at the Butterfly Farm, which is an experience not to be msised, especially of you can take advantage of the unlimited returns to see the hundreds of different butterfly species at different times of the day.

And did I mention the food? Even out of Grand Case, the food's wonderful, right down to the lolos on the beach, including Baywatch, which is owned by a runaway NJ couple who serve, in their own words, "fuggedaboutit food." You haven't lived until you've had a genuine Italian sausage-dog, sitting in the shade, listening to/watching the aqua waves slap down on caramel-colored sand...

Did I mention I'm now on a diet? *sigh*
