In the mail today, a summons to jury duty.

In New Haven.

*facepalm*

Because of course you still own and operate a vehicle in our fair city ... :}

The best part about this is, THEY SENT IT TO YOU IN NEW YORK CITY. You'd think they'd have quality control to catch that sort of thing.

It never fails but that when I move I get a jury summons from my former desmesne within six months. Perhaps one day I'll actually get one from the current jurisdiction and be able to serve.

I've lived in the same house for over 30 years, driver's license and voter registration that whole time, and never received a jury summons . . .

Just because your Mailing Address happens to be in NYC, doesn't mean that you are living there full time. You could be commuting and just don't want anyone to know your home address (which obviously is still here in New Haven) so you are using your Business Address as your mailing address.

I get called about every other year, but I never make it onto a jury. worse than just being a white male, they see "Ph.D." and punt me every time.

Last time I spent the day sitting around with the others waiting to be called in, and wrote up little character sketches based on random quirks of the other people in the room.

Well, context and all, this is Maine. "White" would be the default condition.

Are you kidding me? New Haven is really something else, good god...

Well, you could always call one of the lawyers a honky and they'll send you away? Or you can talk to yourself about the little green man that visits you from your closet at night, that's an epic WIN of a juror non-picking.

Funny. I've lived in NJ most my life and I got jury duty 3 times.

1st time... was away at college in PA.
2nd time... had just move an hour away.
