in which we have something from each of the major LJ groups: felines, fund-raising/activism, bitching/griping, work, and picspam.

1. Dear Beloved Felines: I cannot work if you insist on flopping on top of my manuscript. If I cannot work, I do not get paid. If I do not get paid, you don't get gooshy kibble and will be forced to catch mice and voles for your dinner. I think we can all agree that this is not an ideal state of affairs, yes? So get offa my manuscript, you mangy beasts!

*ahem*

2. Anyone want a calender? How about some sinful sweet recipes? How about donating to a good cause and getting both those things too? Some months ago, Mindy Klasky approached a few of us about doing a fund-raiser for First Book, a non-profit organization that provides children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books. Pretty cool goal, huh?

Well, Mindy decided to sweeten the pot a little. Literally.

In her Jane Madison books - Girl's Guide to Witchcraft, Sorcery and the Single Girl, and Magic and the Modern Girl - the main character regularly visits the Cake Walk Bakery, which is run by her best friend. So what better fundraiser to offer than real recipes from the imaginary bakery, enclosed within a 12-month calender?

Two of those months -- and recipes-- are mine: Key Lime Stars, and Ginger Butterscotch Dreams. And yes, they're both easy to make. I promise! (also: yummy.)

All proceeds from sales of all merchandise on this site benefit First Book.

3. My toe is banded in purple, green and blue, but less swollen. Painkillers did the job, but they also made me sleep really hard. As in almost nine hours of hard. Delightful; and probably needed, but OMG am I off-schedule this morning. Nonetheless, I have an entire chapter to tear apart, put back according to my notes, and slide to later in the storyline, thereby displacing yet another chapter to later in the storyline as well. And I still have to figure out how that little progression ends, having thrown out the original tie-up. Kowing that I did this sort of thing for Staying Dead< isn't making me any less annoyed. My lizard brain was supposed to have set me up better on this! Oh well. At least I know what was wrong, now.

4. Being well-rested and work-directed has not made me any more tolerant of self-willed ignorance. I think I'm going to stay off the Internets until I stop having this urge to snap "what PLANET are you from and will you PLEASE go back there?" at various OMGWTF peoples.

And 5, just because I really love this photo...

Hope your toe is better soon. When that kind of thing happens to me I know the universe is trying to tell me something.
Thank you so much for the photo - Even after 26 years away I still (sometimes) miss the Rotten Apple

While I'd love a calender, my late Dante-Inu (See Icon) will be in the MARS (Midwest Akita Rescue Society) 2009 Calender, so I'm saving up my calender buying fundage to buy a bunch of those for Xmas gifts.
