since I'm in fic-writing mode...
May. 4th, 2004 03:17 pmand I'm not really in any shape to post anything other than mindless fluff, I give you this from
lizbetann:
Pick five, or ten, or more, of your fic titles. List them in your journal and explain how you came up with each one. Post this prompt as well, so that the meme spreads.
"Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know." Well, duh. *grin* I have a weakness for the multi-layered and complicated man, and once we saw Ripper underneath Giles' tweed, I knew I'd write him a story with that title (stolen shamelessly from a perfectly apt description of Lord Byron).
"Soulmates Unwanted." The only pick-your-ending story I've ever written, and possibly the most fun I ever had using useless knowledge. I wanted a feel of a "group" title, since everyone gets their chance to shine, and this had a sort of "corporation name" feel to it. It also pretty well explains the story, since nobody's really sure they want what they end up with...
"A Deep and Dazzling Darkness." Stolen directly from an M. L'Engle novel. I love the way I took an existing book-world and an existing tv-world (XF, in this case) and melded them almost perfectly. I regret only that I'll never be able to use any of it in a for-pay story.
"Senex Amans." Suri is moderately overeducated. The older man, much younger woman trope, taken to extremes (Methos/Cordelia). ("The Perfect Ceremony of Love's Right" and "The Blood-Dimmed Tide" are also signs of my rather liberal arts-directed education. Oh, and also "The Thing With Feathers." Although now I can't help but think of the Woody Allen routine, not Emily's poem).
"Interlude: Warriors of the Light, with VCR." Well, that's pretty much what it was. Along with its earlier cousins, "Interlude: The Best Lies (Are the Ones We Tell Ourselves)" and "Interlude: Warriors of the Light, with Scotch."
And, of course, there's "Squidge." It was such a perfect word for Willow's reaction.
*grin*
