No, not mine -- my folks. They've been talking forever about getting a puppy, but never found the right one. Last night I happened to walk by a rather small, select grooming shop that also sells a few likewise-select puppies at a time. I don't know why I stopped, but I did. And I went in. And I fell in love with a puppy. And I called my folks and I said "get yourselves over there tomorrow." And they hemmed and hawed and I pushed, and they went.

And they did not fall in love with the Poodkie puppy I cuddled. But they did fall head over heels for another puppy (one of five in the store, all a-door-bell as only miniature puppies can be), and she will be coming home on Tuesday.

I have a time-share puppy!

*giggle* A rather largish tribble (she'll be about 9-10 pounds full-grown we think, which puts her between Pandy-sized and Boomer-sized).

But what *is* it? It's cute, and obviously small, but what kind of dog is it?

Shih Tzu (also known as the Chinese or Tibetan Lion Dog). When shown, they wear their hair long and silky, so they look like flowing carpets. The shorter "puppy cut" is preferred for non-show dogs (we've made my mom promise that she will keep the puppy cut).

Okay, that's all the way rounder than what I remember. My aunt Molly had one, and for some reason, I remember a face that was both pug and pointy. Nowhere near this, well, fluffy-round. More like a Maltese face.

Is it likely to be a barker? My aunt's was almost disconcertingly silent.

I suspect there's a lot of subtle variation among the bloodlines -- and a noticeable difference between show dogs and companion dogs. When Puppy comes home on Tuesday I'll bring my camera and get some actual shots to post (that was a stock photo, as I said in the link).

Nope, Shih Tzus, from what I know, are quiet dogs. Which is what my folks wanted.
