lagilmanMany years ago I wrote a story called "Harvey and Fifth." It's still one of my favorite stories, written in reaction to seeing the Oklahoma City memorial. I wrote it, and sent it out for submission, in August 2001. Needless to say, it took a while to find a home. The story is told from the point of view of a child survivor, and there's a line in there that still gives me sad shivers:
There's a space within her that always tells Oklahoma time. 9:01. 9:03.
You know what my time is.
It is an everyday.
It will never be any other day.
Let the sounds today be not of silence, but Life.
