I avoided oysters for years due to the mucus-like factor, then last year we went to Paris and I had an oh-sod-it moment and ordered some. They were raw with lemon juice and they were fantastic. I am a convert. Being a Brit, we're used to the black pud etc.
Bit of an issue with lobster: I've always believed I was allergic to crab due to a childhood incident, but my boss used to get lobsters for lunch and I was fine with those. Then I had it abroad and was ill. I suspect the latter was yer actual food poisoning, but I need a clear 3 days in order to run some controlled experiments.
I like calamari but I share your reservations, especially having watched a Greek fisherman pounding a poor octopus against a wall.
