A friend emailed this morning to tell me about two cats who are desperately in need of a home. Their owner has left the country and sent them directly to the shelter, having made no attempt to find homes for them. Their sometime cat-sitter created a blog to help find the kit-kats a home:

suri here: they look adorable -- fluffy red ringtails (think Boomer, only a little smaller, and longhair). I'd like to solidly kick the owner for just dumping them at the shelter -- you don't DO that -- but finding a home for them would be even better...

*sigh* People are pond scum. In the last week we've been made aware of what I call a "serial killer in training" -- he's been running around slitting cats in half. Sick, sick, sick.

I hate to read about stuff like this. I commend you for helping in the effort to find these two kitties a home. I can't condemn the owner for leaving the cats because I don't know the circumstances under which the cats were left behind and I know that many foreign countries have more stringent entry rules for pets than many people can handle. But it's still sad to see companion animals left to a shelter this way. In Seattle with two boys of my own, I don't really have much to offer in terms of help, but I do hope they find a good home.

At least she didn't just abandon them. That's how I ended up the Forces of Chaos. Thank goodness those two cats had a neighborhood that was willing to get together and look after them, spay them (!!!!), and adopt out the kittens. Even at that, the kittens were in hyperthermia when they were found, and needed serious rescue work.

If people want to rescue kitties "but DC is too far," take a look at the local kill shelters. There will most definitely be cats like these two who are literally dying for a home.

Ditto Dancinghorses comment. I hate it when people abandon animals. I also hate it when people take their animals to the SPCA when they don't want them any more, but slightly less the first. I have 2 strays that I feed and water and a 1/2 stray who was a real stray adopted by my neighbor. Three of us neighbors chipped in to get her spayed. She still comes to visit every day. (On the wall behind our house) Gads, I hate people.

Damn, every cat person I know is full up.

(I ever tell you I'm DB's third owner? #1 threw him on the street when they moved. #2 was running the unofficial shelter that took him in.)
