Historic events tend to be far more enjoyable in history books than in your front parlor. Just remember, when the rescue squad boat comes by, get IN it. No heroics, now.

I've been watching updates on events in Iowa specifically...and keep saying to myself, "holy $hit, holy $hit, holy $hit." Because that's all you can say when you look at the video and images.

I was particularly saddened last night when I looked at the pictures on the Cedar Rapids newspaper's web site, and saw a shot of the lovely venue we played at 18 months ago, totally under water. :(

Also? In other depressing, but somewhat important news, Tim Russert died today. :(

I have mixed feelings about the connonization of the guy going around -- he was an important media figure, yes. Possibly even a good man. But he was in no way an even-handed saint of political commentary, and so I will simply say that he died far too young.

Anyway, I dislike all Talking Heads on principal, so I'm not one to ask.

Coming from a family of print-journalists, I've long had a problem with the lack of objectivity among tv "journalists" (except Keith Olbermann, who's just great), but for his job he was pretty damn good. And certainly died too young.
