Jones!

Taking a break from the convention, Patricia Bray and I hijacked Joshua Palmatier from his panel five minutes early ("Joshua, there are women demanding you leave with them...I think they mean business...") and went to see Indy 4. Not as gleeful as the first, not as sheerly joyful as the third, but I think it's safe to say the curse of the even-numbered movies ends with #4. After a slow start (and a few reminders to shut down the analytical part of my brain because, oy) this was solid Indy-style fun.

I could have lived without the actual saucer, but at least this way we can officially tie the Jones series into CE3rdK!. And I really want to write "Indiana Jones and the Curse of Shelob," now.

I quite agree! It was rip-roaring fun and was much better than #2. Yes, there were a few story-telling issues, including stretching that tenuous suspension of disbelief to the breaking point, but overall it was great! I certainly enjoyed myself immensely, because it's INDY! :)

The saucer was actually one of my favorite bits. It felt the most 1950s pulp to me, out of everything in the movie. I think my biggest problem with the movie, in fact, was that it was *too* slick. I think I wanted to believe the special effects a little less than I did. I was quite happy with it, though, overall. I thought it was good solid Indiana Jones fun, too. :)

For me, the 50s-style saucer was one of the redeeming features of the final sequence, most of which looked more 1970s than 1950s. After seeing the CE3K alien's evil twin, I was worried that the lost city was going to turn into the flying chandelier from CE3K, so I'm glad that they opted for a nicely understated saucer instead.

I just felt that the whirling bits of debris were so much more indicative of the "space between space" travel that the saucer made it less fantastic,not more. The "refrigerator duck-and-cover" wassilly, this was just Spielberg icing the already-rich cake.

We're waiting until Doug's brother shows up this weekend to go. Can't wait. I don't care how it measures up to the others, so long as it has Harrison Ford in a battered fedora.

We're also thrilled to be offered a hero who AGES! From the clips I've seen, they have a lot of fun with that, and Dr. Doug loves the teaching references.

I'm even resisting reading any spoilers.
