It's always a kick to turn on a travel or history program and see somewhere you've been. But it was deeply surreal to turn on the tv just now and see the Navesink Lighthouse under discussion!

I grew up with the Lighthouse; it overlooks Sandy Hook, which was my family's shoreline of choice back when. Gorgeous and impressive, but you never think of things you grew up with as being particularly historical...

(the first lighthouse was built on that spot in the 1700's, and was in constant use until well after WWII. And it amuses me how much of its history I had absorbed through osmosis, without even knowing it...)

In other news, I am so not ready to head out to California on Wednesday. But at least laundry is done. Everything else I can fake, right?

Just make sure you have anything which you can't do without, which would be hard to do without: glasses, medicine, identification. Beyond that, it's all gravy.

(I'm treating this like a WorldCon -- business casual and comfy shoes. Plus, there will be access to a washing machine the second half of the trip, yay!)

Of course I meant, that you can't do without or easily replace. Thank you for knowing that's what I intended despite the fact that I didn't say it. As long as you've got Deb's # (and please give her a big hug from me), you can deal with housing, and you can get your flight info with a quick poke on line, or a call to the airline.
