lagilman: coffee or die (Pandora glares)

I am pleased to announce that both felines passed their yearly physicals with flying colors.* Even better, Pandora has put back the much-needed weight she lost while stressed out in NJ, and Boomer's lost the excess he was carrying around, bringing him to an almost-svelte 19 pounds!

Seriously. 19 pounds on Boomer is, as per the vet, trim fighting weight. He's a Big Boy.

*Mom, on the other hand, is in need of a rest cure (Boomer does not like the carrier. Or the car. Or the vet)

19 pounds? Wow. Spanky is overweight in significant fashion at 15.

I understand the need for a rest cure. It sounds like Boomer feels about the vet the way Spanky does: that the car is a nightmare and the vet is a demon out to steal his soul.

And it's not so much that he puts up a fight -- he's a sweet boy, if stubborn -- but that he MOANS. Endlessly, like a tortured-and-dying baritone.

First, Yay for you and the kids! Glad to have that done, I need to get my girls in for their checkup soon.

Secondly, you might want to try desensitizing him to the carrier and car.

I leave my carriers out and put treats/toys and even catnip in them, it's not long before the cats are sleeping in them.

If you just take the cat for a ride every now and then, and try and make it a happy experience (in other words, lie to the cat), they will come to not dread the car as much.

I had a cat that used to love rides, in fact Skitz used to before she went to the vet with Kitty. Kitty is such a screamer, that she scared Skitz and now Skitz hates it too. hmm I think it's time to take Skitz for a few rides by herself. Maybe even introduce her to some folks (while she's in the carrier and can't escape).

There! You've inspired me even more!

Off to torment the cats!

Think he has Maine Coon cat in him? TheOldGreyPoet has a cat named Dolly. She is a Maine Coon. He used to have a normal sized big cat and he looked like a dwarf beside her. Of course she is fluffy, so that adds to the size, but not that much.

Shadow whines constantly in the car. I think the motor runs at a note that her ears don't like, but what do I know.

About Boomer's size: He doesn't look that big in pictures. Can you post one of him with something typical, like a toaster, to size him?
