the wine wench strikes again
Mar. 14th, 2007 03:48 pmForgive me, it has been many months since my last wine confession...
Not that I haven't been drinking excellent wines, but I've been remiss in sharing them with you.
I had dinner last weekend at a new South American restaurant in Manhattan (Brazilian fusion, basically) where (in addition to fabulous duck in honey-ginger sauce with peppercorns and a yam puree that was to die for) we also had a wine I picked, pretty much blind except for knowing the region was producing some good and well-priced wines, off the wine list.
Quara Torrontés is a very nice young white wine that reminded me pleasantly of a viognes in the nose, but was dryer in the taste. Fruity and fresh, with a lovely floral finish -- perfect for spicy or peppery food, or just sipping as the weather gets warmer. Seems to run about $10-$12 in stores.
And I see that Quara also bottles a Tannat, which is a rough-and-ready red wine I'm quite fond of. I foresee a trip to the Wine Thief, soon...
(and the semi-final of Top Chef that's showing now, they've been given a bottle of Shaffer cabernet and fresh black truffles to work with. Dear lord. I wish I were feeling better because now I want to open a Killer Bottle)
