was it just me, or did they just introduce Al Gore as "Vice President" and not "former Vice President"?

(ETA: I sit corrected. Still, I bet it burned the current Veeps ass...)

Yes, I'm watching the Oscars. Yes, I am ashamed. Move on...

(oh, oh, perfect timing on the cue music! Heeee...)

Don't be ashamed. I watch, religiously, every year. For a president, he or she is always introduced as president for the rest of his life. Maybe that is also so for VP?

I wish he'd grow the beard back.

It's not just you. I heard it too.

Yep - I think it's the basic protocol. Warmed my heart hearing Dave Letterman refer to the Big Dawg - whom he'd lambasted mercilessly his entire term, and was so vicious about that I stopped watching Letterman over it - welcoming him to the show and calling him "Mr. President".

I think that's standard procedure. After you've held the office you continue to be referred to as that. President Ford was forever after called President Ford. Same goes for Clinton, Carter...

The only exception I know of was when Taft became Chief Justice, he was referred to as Chief Justice even though he'd been President because it was a current office. I don't know what he was called in the little less than a month between the time he resigned as Chief Justice and his death.

At least that's the case with President. I assumed it was the same with Vice-President.

Technically, Al's current job description is Former Vice-President. However, as a title, he gets to keep calling himself Vice-President Gore for life (unless he someday gets a promotion, at which point he can call himself President Gore until his dying day). It's like the military; it's not Former General Schwarzkopf, even though he's now retired from the Army and is, in fact, a former general.

*gasp* You don't care about the Oscars? Next you'll be ragging on American Idol! I shudder at your total disrespect of what's truly important in the world!

As long as you're spending the time writing more books, I won't alert the authorities. :)

I wish they could follow them around after the show airs to watch how their friends and family react. That would be quality entertainment. Ummm...not that I'm evil or anything....
