chores accomplished: I have been outside to run my sundry errands. I saw exactly three other people outside, which is three more than I saw moving outside all of yesterday. Weather.com tells me it's 20 degrees outside. That feels about right. No wind.
movies watched: Cartoon Row was featuring WWII-era cartoons. "I'm a Gremlin....from the Kremlin..." I had forgotten how truly wonderful these were. Oh, for the relative innocence of an age when propaganda could be effective, cute, and pointy. Also: Gunga Din - meh. Good working white noise. The Back Stallion. That's a tough movie to work against 'cause it's all about the pretty. Also Guys and Dolls, which I really hate except for the few bits I love. And to be reminded that once, there was a guy named Marlon Brando who was pretty damn wow.
blankets used: only the fleece one. Two cats, piled on top and sleeping.
writing done: Nailed my
novel_in_90 quota. Total wordage so far: 1350 2,000 words. I am falling shy of my goal, due to the evil Social Behavior. Tomorrow, I am hermit.
freelance project: still not opening the file. Slight guilt.
writing neep: over at
eeknight's journal, we're talking about the tripartite question of means, motive and cause (or, as was more bluntly put: who, why, and why now?). I'm struggling with that on DOWN INTO DARKNESS, where the weight of the previous four books is finally cracking even the hardest of surfaces...but I'm not satisfied with the actual trigger scene. The action is there, but the emotional punch feels like it's been pulled. I susect it's one of those things that will have to wait until at least half the book is written, and then I can go back and backweave the fallout into the original hit. Like TH White's Merlin, I seem to live write backward in time.
food eaten: toast, coffee, juice, and a peanut butter sandwich. I am thinking about making chicken stuffed with red pepper and ricotta for dinner tonight.
If I'm a good meerkat, I will be able to go out and be social for an hour or so tonight. If the temperatures don't drop too signficantly, anyway. I like the cold, yeah, but some temperatures are just Not Right. My padawan C. came and dragged me out for a few hours, since we haven't seen each other since before New Year's. Lots of catching up accomplished.
ETA: quote of the day: "ever since we gelded him, he's given us everything he's got." I bet!
