if you ever wondered why the fight for gender equality is so important? why, despite advances, so many women people insist on more? and why so many otherwise strong, independent, successful women despair of ever being able to walk and work and live without that niggling, ever-present fear of the male gender, one way or another?

and then ask yourself if that -- the legal implication of being no consequence, of no value save as property -- is what you want to live with, either for yourself, or the women in your life. if it is -- why? if it's not -- what are you willing to do about it?

I am amazed, since even in many ancient civilizations where a woman was treated as property, she still always had the right to refuse no matter how many times she said yes (I believe this was part of Roman law).
