Interesting comments on George, everyone. As it turns out, George went on and did exactly the stupid thing as George is wont to do, and no amount of gentle comments about "that didn't work out so well last time, did it?" was able to stop the inevitable. Alas. I did not charge admission. I'm not even going to gloat, quietly or otherwise. I feel too bad for George, who remains clueless.

The signing went well, although it was (as expected) the All-Tammy Show. It reminded me much of one of my first signings, when I was placed next to Neil Gaiman. Although Tammy impresses me more than Neil (is that heresy? Deal with it.) And Tui, whom I'd never met before despite her having been my first editor on the Grail Quest books, was a delight. I was then whisked off to Steak Frites for dinner (mm, duck breast and frites, mmm) and this morning I am promised challah french toast and bacon, and then shopping-with-gift-certificates. Life is quite good. ;-)

Oh, and the haircut received praise, although nobody quite believes how much I had taken off (mainly because my hair had been so long I was wearing it pulled back all the time). For the record, the longest strand had reached my ribs in the back -- the longest strands now reach my collarbone. A bit of a hacking-off, yes. Alas, it will, as my hair always does, grow back. Quickly.

Home tonight, then off to Boston on the morrow, and home again who knows when...

(oh, and welcome to the newcomers! Don't be shy, step up and say hi!)

LOL!!! You had the Gaiman experience too, did you??? My *very first* signing was next to Neil Gaiman at an Oz convention.

Suffice it to say, I got a lot of reading done ... *g*

Sorry I couldn't make it to the signing last night. I'll see you soon in Austin, though!

I'd planned on coming to the event, but life went and happened (Christina desperately needs new glasses, and the eye doc told us to get in to him right away (he stayed late for us, nice guy that he is).

I can see how Tammy would be central at a YA signing event. Though neither of you exactly fade into the background either.

At my first singing after my first short was published, I outdrew Dave Duncan and Will McDermott. That was because it was Toronto and all the people from my sff.net groups (mainly Canadians) turned out for me. It was great fun having a line running off down the aisle. Of course, I've never signed more than a handful of books at one time since.

I know what you mean about the hair. I recently cut my to bob length (with layers). The front is just below the jawline, and the back is nape of the neck at the longest point. But if I wanted it back to well below the shoulders, it would take me about a year or so of growing. It grows about an inch a month, if not more.

My sister, whose hair grows *much* slower, hates me for it

If I'm one of the newcomers you mean, here I am stepping up and saying hi. Also writer. Also editor. Mainly tired person.

When I cut my hair to shoulder-length I loved it. It has that sassy swing at that length. So when are you posting a headshot?? ;-)

I'm stepping up and hey-ing, I suppose. Mostly just wanted to say that it was lovely to meet you yesterday (at the signing) and i'm excited to have new books to read now. Also to say that while it may have started as an all-Tammy event, I thought you definitely added a lot to evening. (Not in the least because you thought my Raoul-drinking question was amusing.)

So I hope you don't mind that I lj-stalked you here!

Actually, I blew you off to get some writing done during the last real block of time I'll have before WFC. Which isn't as understandable as drinking. ;-)

You can't photograph a blur

*Pets the horror writers...I mean cats!* Cats and a bar...sounds like my favourite kind of party. I'll bring my electric blanket and we'll be all set. (Blanket is favourite thing ever!)

Now I feel classy. Heh. Heh.

Neil Gaiman is a fabulous writer and a nice person from what I've heard around and about, but Tamora Pierce was the first writer ever that I read to write Girls Who Did Stuff, and thus she is my hero. Until I found her books in my teens I thought that I would somehow have to become a boy in order to get a chance at being a person who did stuff in fantasy novels.
