in three easy steps.

1. Rocks.
2. Go, see.
3. Way much fun.

It's not the frolic of a mindless romp the first movie was -- there you walked out and thought 'what just happened?' Here there's an actual plot. That almost makes sense. And how sad is it when we all agreed that Depp was the third prettiest man in the movie? (almost the fourth, behind Kiera Knightly). Scruffy Norrington(TM)...mmm. Never let that man near a powdered wig ever again, k?

It's like a morally confused "Raiders" blended with a shot of quality Monty Python, and a chaser of AbFab. I'd list my favorite moments, but there were too many and they came at you too fast to remember. I need the dvd....

"Why is the rum gone, again? Oh. That's why."

Yeah, it was long. And it's clearly setting you up for the third movie. But that doesn't invalidate a) the fun to be had in this one and b) the fact that 85% of the plot is entirely this movie, not set-up. I call that a fair percentage.

Oh. And so many many props to the fight choreographers. Seriously. If you've seen it, you know what I mean.

Do not believe the reviews, unless you believe Suri's. This is high-larious. If you loved the first one, you will love the second, perhaps not as much, but a lot.

It is overstuffed, and it is a little long. However, it is very very funny and has some delicious set pieces.

The guy with the wooden eye is back, and he makes literary, existential, and biblical references throughout, which is pretty good for a person who cannot read.

Norrington is back, disheveled, dirty, and in a wet shirt. Need I say more?

It is true I adore Orlando Bloom, but he is neither stiff nor wooden. He is, however, a perfect straight man/straight arrow to Johnny Depp's once again brilliant and wicked stoned pirate.

Keira Knightley - wow. Adorable, feisty, and allowed to be both erotic and predatory. The scene where she is throwing stones and howling in frustration while Will/Jack/Norrington have a threeway sword fight is one of the best girls v. boys visuals I have seen in a long time.

Natives on tropical island -- didn't I just see that in King Kong? Same island, same makeup?

The swordfight on the water wheel -- worth the price of admission.

Davy Jones (Bill Nighy under all those tentacles) and his crew really do it with the squick.

Must have DVD.

Well I'm sold. Not that it took a lot of selling: Depp is what I think of as a phonebook actor (that is: he could sit on a stool reading a phone book for two hours, and I'd pay to watch). Maybe I can work in a matinee tomorrow.

my favorite line...

'Hide the rum'

'Pirate'

'Hello, Beastie.'

I am in love, love, love.

And I have to say it feels shorter on the second viewing. Don't ask me why.

God bless the Black Pearl and all who sail in her ...

and sorry, I can't remember the carbuncle line. Know what you mean, can't recall it.

Well, I still thought all the men were pretty... though I also subscribe to [livejournal.com profile] moriath's theory that Anamaria mysteriously vanished because Disney fulfilled their One Ethnic Chick Per Movie cap.

I just found it way too long, schticky, the plot didn't excite me whatsoever, and I thought it relied way too heavily on the first movie, especially for the humor - all of which fell flat, IMO.

Clearly I and my boy are a small minority, though, so your mileage can and does vary.

Ok, I saw it, went "eh" but still had a good time since I was with good friends, however reading your review, I'm going, yeah, liked that bit, and that impressed me and ... what was it I was going "eh" over again?

Oh I know now! I want to see the 3rd movie NOW! that's what it was :)

(honestly that was the only thing that put me off, and since it hit me at the end of the movie that's what I walked away with. Must have the whole set, then I can truly enjoy it!)

I saw it and it was okay, but I liked the first one much better. A friend asked me to watch it tomorrow with her, so maybe it will be better the second time around. I may watch the Black Pearl before I go watch it.

My husband thought it was an advertisement for Disneyworld rides. I was disappointed with the ending. The three way fight was cool though. And the wheel.

I loved the movie, and thought it was really worth the wait. I do like the first one better, but this movie gave me the serious side that I wanted with the fun part. I still can't believe Disney made these movies.

I grinned like an idiot at the very end. I love cool entrances from favorite characters.

Favorite line though has to be:

"Look what I brought you. *BANG* An undead monkey!"

The menfolk in my household liked it a fair amount. One loved it as much as I did, and laughed loud and long, the other was a bit squicked by the tentacles.

I LOVED it, as did the two men who went with me. Don't know what everyone's complaining about...(By that, I mean the people who loved the first one yet inexplicably loathed _everything_ about the second. I can see preferring the first one or thinking the second one is mediocre, but hating it?) I had a LOT of fun, loved the ending, and can't wait for the third one. Too bad they're not putting it out sooner!

I'm probably not going to be much help, then—I liked it, almost as much as the first one. But at the same time, I'm probably not going to see it again, at least in theaters; the implicit condoning of torture was a bit much for my tastes.

I liked the movie and I know it had nothing to do with pretty boys, or scruffy men since I am attracted to neither. From what I have been led to believe, the 3rd movie is already shot, but I think it still needs post production done on it. Jack Davenport (Norrington) is also most excellent in the BBC comedy "Coupling", I highly recommend it.

"Look what I brought you. *BANG* An undead monkey!"

"Top that!"

I swear the writers were peering into my brain when they wrote that line. Or when Depp adlibbed it. Whichever.

Anyway, we got to the end and after the initial shock passed, I shouted, "Now that is how The Matrix: Reloaded should have ended!"

pirates 4?

The first Pirates of the Caribbean was great in every way, the best part of the other two was the special effects… the question now is, if they come out with a fourth, will it maintain the quality of the first?
