poll results and weekend plans
Jul. 8th, 2006 09:53 amSo, 26 of you thought I should go to Readercon for the day, and pretend I'd get some work done on Sunday.
9 of you said I should stay home and sleep.
6 voted for 'other' (including 2 votes for going to Baltimore instead).
3 were of the opinion that I should go visit my sister.
2 suggested staying home and working on other projects.
Obviously, as I'm still here, I'm not going to Readercon. Or Baltimore. I've looked at my schedule, and this may be my only 'unscripted' weekend until after Labor Day. That's a damn good reason to stay close to home, IMO. So it will be a combination of sleeping, household chores, and poking at two specific projects I want to get off my desk and onto Madame Agent's agenda.
I also need to rethink an idea that's been hanging fire in my brain for two years now: I have all the parts but it's not gelling or otherwise making like a story. That generally means I'm missing something Very Important. It could also mean that I'm trying to slot it into the wrong genre. That happens, occasionally -- I'll start writing something thinking that it's fantasy, and wonderment, it has an SFnal base! Or it starts as SF and be damned if it doesn't become horror-tinged mainstream. Etc. Always one of those "huh? oh....hah!" discoveries.
Sometimes I'm not even just the storyteller for the story; sometimes I'm just the storyteller's pen.
In other semi-related news, I see that the esteemed editors of Polyphony 6 will be making their final sort this weekend. We shall all now sit in our dark corners and think 'pick me! pick me!' thoughts toward the Specific Northwest...
And, in parting, a quick Improvisational Chef recipe for Fabu Flounder:
2 filets of flounder, lightly soaked in teriaki marinade and touched with grated ginger and black pepper to taste. Pan grill until lightly golden (about three minutes, both sides). Serve with garlic green beans and a nice zinfandel (I poured the Seghesio, which I adore). Yum. No leftovers, and easy clean-up!
